It can also be defined as any agent that treats a disease.

Although the definition I have used here states that a medicine is any agent that treats a disease, most of today's medicines do not treat diseases. Many only treat the symptoms of the disease. For example medicines for arthritis usually treat the pain without treating the inflammation. Insulin and other medications that control blood sugar levels do not cure you of your blood sugar problems. They only help control your blood sugar levels.

Unfortunately some alternative treatments do not cure the disease either; however, they almost never have side effects (unless you are allergic) and are usually much more cost effective than modern pharmaceuticals.

Almost anything can be considered an alternative health treatment. Examples of alternative health treatments include: different forms of massage, herbal remedies, aromatherapy, acupuncture, homeopathy, and even yoga or meditation.

I can tell you that many scientists and doctors say that there is none to very little scientific evidence to support some of these treatments. There is no scientific evidence to support the "placebo effect" either however; the placebo effect is widely recognized. From everything I have learned about clinical trials, scientists try to study things in a "vacuum". Studies are conducted using inclusion and exclusion criteria. One of the reasons for the criteria is to focus the study, but sometimes the criteria are to eliminate factors that could affect the results of the study. One of these factors could be taking certain medications.

Because of the lack of credibility of some alternative treatments, some of them are now conducting clinical trials. A product known as Peri-Gum (it treats periodontal disease) is clinically proven to work. There has also been some research performed at John Hopkins to explain the health benefits of goji juice. Most of us know about the health benefits of certain foods and vitamins.

One of the problems with alternative health treatments is that it can be difficult to judge the quality of the product of service. For example, did you know that the vitamin supplements you are taking may not easily dissolve? If the pill doesn't dissolve, you can bet you will not be able to absorb it. To test your current vitamins, create a solution of equal parts of vinegar and water and leave the pill in the solution over night. If it doesn't dissolve, demand your money back. Since supplements are not regulated you cannot be sure that the package even contains what the label says. There was a program started back in 2001 where manufacturers could submit their products to the United States Pharmacopeia for testing. If you find a USP certification mark on the product you buy, this means that the product meets certain requirements for accuracy in labeling, purity and good manufacturing practices.

There have also been some studies done on the health value of touch. Touch as in stroking, patting or hugging can stimulate the immune system. I have also seen many studies that have been done on the value of owning a pet. Some health benefits I've seen cited include: decreased blood pressure, decreased cholesterol levels and improved mental health.

There is one other alternative therapy that deserves a mention in this article and that is "home remedies". You should ask your mother or grandmother about these. They were very commonly used by many poor families before insurance became widely available. Here are two home remedies that I know about that have worked for me. This remedy is for a skin infection such as acne or a boil. For acne cut a potato and rub it over the acne, then let it sit for 2 hours and wash it off. For a boil, peel a potato and put the inside of the skins against the boil and leave overnight. My daughter also swears by tea bags for acne. For warts, put a copper penny (if you can find one) into a small bowl filled with red wine vinegar. Every day rub the wart with the soaked penny a few times a day. Eventually the wart will dissolve and yes there will be a bit of blood. My mom did this to me when I was a kid and I had many warts. I still years later don't have any warts and I don't have any scars either.

In conclusion, there are many alternatives to taking pharmaceuticals but you need to find out about the quality of the product or service you want to try. Please note this article is informational only. I am not a licensed health care provider and am therefore, not dispensing any medical advice.

by Laura Diane Simmons

Top Medical Careers

A medical career is often the most admired career of the world. A medical career is humanitarian, noble and is undoubtedly holds a very bright future for those who are after it. In terms of money, this field is one of the most promising of all.

But in order to get into the medical arena, one has to have the patience to spend several years in medical school learning human anatomy and biology, and then more time working in hospitals, nursing homes and so on.

There are a number of fields where one can specialize: Master of Healthcare Administration, RN to BS in Nursing, BS in Health Administration, Doctor of Health Administration, MS in Nursing / MBA / Health Care Management, Healthcare Management, Medical Office Billing and Coding Specialist, Patient Care Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assisting, and Medical Insurance Billing/Coding. Even in the field of medicine, an MBA becomes a priority as management nowadays plays a key role in this field.

But if someone wants to excel in his medical career, the most promising jobs are those of medical transcriptions, medical coding, pharmaceutical field officers, medical representatives, managers, deputy managers and, most importantly, medical doctors.

Two of the most respectable jobs in the field of medicine are that of medical marketing management and medical coding. Marketing management is valuable as a medical career and has a bright prospect in terms of social respect and money. But one who wants to do so will gain an upper hand if he or she completes a marketing course like an MBA. This profession not only deals with the knowledge of medical affairs and medicines, but also applies the business administrative skills to it, thereby making it rich and interesting.

By Eric Morris

Group Health Insurance

Health is wealth, says the famous cliché. Keeping the body in perfect shape is important. But equally important is having access to proper medical care. There are is a wide range of insurance policies that employees can avail themselves of, including health insurance policies.

What is health insurance?

By its literal definition, health insurance is that kind of insurance wherein the insurer pays all of the medical costs covered by a customer’s health insurance policy. The health insurance provider may either be a private organization or a government agency.

What is group health insurance?

Group health insurance is sponsored by certain company employers as part of the benefits which the employees can gain. It is a medical policy adhered to by the insurer that extends medical coverage, including dental and vision, and in some cases, psychiatric care and counseling. In its strictest sense, group health insurance will take charge of most medical costs of group members who suffer injury or illness.

Latest Options for Group Health Insurance

The Medical Savings Account Program enables employers to procure high-deductible, low-cost medical coverage. In turn, they are also enabled to place the premium savings into some kind of medical savings accounts for their employees.

The Maximum Benefit Plan covers $1 million of maximum lifetime benefit for each individual. In contrast to the first option, this group health insurance plan contains a high deductible but then pays the 100% of hospitalization costs instead of the usual 80%.

Currently employed individuals and retirees can always access their medical benefits with the group health insurance.

By Max Bellamy

No Medical Life Insurance

When applying for life insurance many life insurance companies require you to answer medical related questions and / or to undergo a medical examination as part of the application process. These medical examinations are often required as proof of your health status as given on your application form. They are used by the life insurance companies to help them decide upon the insurance premium you'll be charged for your life cover, and in some instances, as to whether you will be given life insurance at all.

Life insurance products where intensive medical questioning and / or a medical examination is required effectively penalise you for pre-existing medical conditions, pushing up the cost of life cover. Taking a medical examination may also prove stressful, especially for the elderly who are looking for life insurance coverage later on in life.

Increasingly though, life insurance companies are offering life insurance products where no medical is required. What's more some life companies even guarantee acceptance before you apply!

What is no medical life insurance?
No medical life insurance, to use a well-known phrase, does exactly what it says on the tin! It is a life insurance product where no medical examination is required. You may not even have to answer medical questions and yet still be guaranteed acceptance for life insurance. No medical life insurance is open to people of all ages, so whether you're 20 or 65, no medical life insurance can give you the peace of mind that your loved ones will be financially secure in the event of your death during the term of the life insurance policy.

You may be questioning the ethics of such a life insurance scheme at this point? If you are don't worry! No medical life insurance is all above board, and is in fact offered by some of the most well-known insurance companies in the UK. Even supermarkets like Tesco for instance now have a no medical insurance policy available for the over 60s.

The premiums on life insurance where no medical is required are competitive too. Life cover can be acquired for as little as £7 per month, with some life companies guaranteeing that the insurance premiums on no medical policies will not rise through the life of the policy. Of course, how much you pay into the life insurance policy each month will affect the final life insurance total available upon death. Generally, there are no issues involved with increasing the life insurance premiums later on of your own accord should you wish to do so.

By: Gary Tallon

Major Individual Medical Insurance

Major Individual Medical Insurance is a flexible insurance plan that can meet most health-care needs and budgets. There are different types of major medical insurance schemes such as individual major medical insurance, short-term major medical insurance, high deductible plan insurance etc. Individuals who are not covered by health insurances by the employer and those who do not fall into any group policy usually seek major individual medical insurance. Individual major medical coverage is more expensive than a group policy.

Individual major medical insurance plans cover almost any medical need that may arise. Family and child-only features are available in this insurance. A self-employed person, not covered by a group plan, an early retiree, a part time employee or an unemployed person qualify for a major individual medical insurance plan.

The short-term major medical insurance provides health insurance for people who are between permanent health insurance plans and is in temporary need for medical insurance. An unemployed person, waiting for group coverage to begin, a recent college graduate, and one no longer qualified as a dependent under family coverage are eligible for applying for short term major individual medical insurance.

The high-deductible insurance plan provides major medical coverage for a self employed individual or employee of a company with 50 or fewer employees, not covered under a major medical insurance.

Health insurance premiums are calculated depending on factors such as health of those individuals seeking to become insured; age and sex of the applicants; geographic location of the residence of the applicants; desired deductible and co-insurance levels; and availability of any managed care options.

When searching for a major individual medical insurance, it is ideal to opt for a policy that will cover the major expenses and provide the highest possible lifetime maximum. Money can be saved on the premiums by taking large deductibles and paying smaller costs out-of-pocket. Internet searches can help locate some of the best quotes of major individual medical insurance plans.

By Kevin Stith

Why You May Need an Insurance Medical Temporary Plan

You might be traveling and you do not have the assurance that you are going to be safe throughout your travel but, with a short term insurance plan, you will be able to enjoy yourself knowing that you are covered against any accident or incident that many happen and this is a temporary medical insurance. You may get a cover for one month or for a year depending on the duration you think you are going to need it. Various insurance companies have different plans and you need to get a plan that is going to suit you. You may be between jobs and need to have an insurance medical temporary plan. Some of the features of plans include the ability to keep your personal doctor and even the hospital you normally visit.

The second feature is that there is coverage of prescription drugs and discounts, and also insurance for many prescriptions and medical services. However, many plans do not cover pre existing conditions and illnesses. Most insurance medical temporary covers cover only prescriptions, physician services, x ray, laboratory services, in patient hospital stay, skilled nursing facilities, inpatient and outpatient surgeries and rehabilitation. On the internet, you can read about the various plans and get to see the payment plans. Most insurance companies have provided flexible payment plans and they are very affordable to anybody who wishes to apply. It is good to have all the information before you start making any payments.

One of the insurance medical temporary plan is the Celtic plan which covers persons who are 6 months to 64 1/2 years and it does not cover pregnant women. You must also not be covered by any other medical plan. The plan is for all US citizens and people who have lived in the country for over 2 years and they must show the evidence that they are indeed citizens. The insurance medical temporary covers manipulative therapy, radiology and laboratory expenses, surgical charges, prescription drug charges, intensive care charges, hospital out patient charges, inpatient psychiatric charges and others. You should therefore know the kind of insurance you want so that you can get the best deal.

The best deal only comes when you have looked at the available plans. Most plans at first may look great but after comparing to others, you will realize that there are better insurance medical temporary covers to go for. There are no covers that are made for pregnant women and this is primarily because there is certainty that there are medical bills that will need to be paid. Also, all women who are pregnant may bring down an insurance company just because of the huge number of people that would apply. Pre existing conditions are also not covered for the same reason. Choose a cover wisely and you will be assured that in case of a problem, you have the financial aspect covered. Different states have different policies and when you are searching on the internet, you search for specific insurance companies in your home area. Temporary medical insurance is vital to have because it can save life.

By Peter Gitundu

Medical Insurance

Medical insurance is an agreement whereby the insure pays a monthly amount of money to the company, so that in the event of a need for medical treatment, the company pays the often-exorbitant bills. This is a way of making sure you stay healthy, no matter what. Medical insurance can be of immense importance to us. One pays premiums to a particular health insurance company so that when one needs monetary support for health care, the insurance company would pay for the person. The first step for an individual who is responsible for taking care of himself is to have a comparative evaluation of medical insurance quotes from a considerable number of medical insurance plan providers. This not only makes an individual aware of the different health and medical insurance plans that these companies have to offer, but helps the individual make informed decisions about the exact kind of medical insurance plans he or she wants to join.

Insurance quotes are available from various medical insurance companies throughout the United States. Medical insurance quotes are available in company offices and even on the Web. The rates for premiums payable to the medical insurance companies are determined by the companies and are regulated by every state. There are different types of medical insurance available depending on the situation and the purpose of the insurance. They are:

(a) Medical insurance for the individual

(b) Medical insurance for the family

(c) Medical insurance for a group of individuals

(d) International medical insurance

(e) Travel medical insurance

(f) Major medical insurance

Medical Insurance provides detailed information on Medical Insurance, International Medical Insurance, Travel Medical Insurance, Major Medical Insurance and more. Medical Insurance is affiliated with Major Short Term Medical Insurance.

By Elizabeth Morgan

Learn How Your Business Can Pay For Your Insurance And Medical Expenses

If you are self-employed, your income is subject to a 15.3% self-employment FICA tax. Added to a 28% Federal income tax and a 5% state income tax, this could leave you paying nearly 50% of your income to the government. Fortunately, most self-employed people qualify to set up an HRA or Health Reimbursement Arrangement. An HRA can enable your business to reimburse you for health insurance and out-of-pocket medical expenses, and will save you an extra $3,000 each year.

Health Reimbursement Arrangements for the Self-Employed

An HRA is simply an agreement which enables your business to cover employee's medical expenses, including individual health insurance premiums, as a tax-free fringe benefit. This tax benefit was established in Section 105 of the IRS tax code in 1955, when General Electric lobbied for a business reimbursement rule to give it more flexibility in creating employee benefits.

Anyone set up as an S-corp or C-corp qualifies to set up an HRA. If you are a Schedule C or Schedule F sole proprietor, an HRA is allowed if your spouse can work at least part time in the business. You will be setting up an employee benefits package that covers health insurance premiums, disability insurance premiums, long-term care premiums, and even out-of-pocket medical expenses such as dental coverage.

An HRA makes your taxes go down because when you get to write off medical expenses on your Schedule C, you avoid paying Federal income taxes, state income taxes, and the 15.3% FICA self-employment tax. Not only can the business reimburse you for the cost of health insurance premiums, but you can also set up the HRA to reimburse for dental coverage, preventive care, disability insurance, long-term care insurance, and other out-of-pocket medical expenses.

If you are self-employed but do not have an HRA, you can write off your health insurance premiums on your 1040, saving you Federal income taxes. But, you are still subject to FICA and state income taxes for these expenses. You are not able to write off any of the other expenses listed above.

Using an HRA with a Health Savings Account

Some financial advisors do not realize that you can have an HRA along with a Health Savings Account (HSA). You can of course. The only caveat is that the HRA cannot reimburse for expenses that could apply toward the deductible of the HSA, such as doctor visits or prescription drugs. But, it can cover any insurance premiums and preventive care.

The potential savings are substantial. Let's assume a business owner is in a 28% tax bracket, has an HSA plan, and is incurring the following expenses.

•Health insurance premiums - $7,000
•Preventive expenses - $1,000
•Other insurance - $2,000

The self-employed business owner can write off the $7,000 premium on Federal income taxes, saving 28% of that or $1,960. If the HSA is fully funded, an additional $1,582 will be saved off of Federal income taxes and $282.50 from state income taxes. So, in total, the business owner’s taxes will go down by $3,824.50.

Once an HRA is set up, the entire $10,000 in expenses listed above can be reimbursed by the business. So, the business owner would be saving a total of $2,800 from Federal income taxes, $500 from state income taxes, and $1,530 in self-employment taxes. The business owner will also get to take advantage of the same $1,960 in HSA tax savings, for a total tax reduction of $6,790.

Smart business owners take advantage of all the tax deductions for which they qualify. You can reimburse health insurance expenses from the beginning of the year, but out-of-pocket expenses only from the date your HRA begins.

By: Wiley Long

The New Health Insurance - Avoid Diabetes And Heart Disease So Your Medical Retirement Acct Grows

It is now estimated the average couple will need over $200,000 in retirement just to cover medical expenses. Health Savings Accounts are now giving people serious incentives to take care of their health so that money will be there when they need it in old age.

Health Savings Accounts are tax-favored accounts where someone with a qualifying high-deductible health plan can deposit money to be used for future medical expenses. The money can be withdrawn any time to pay medical expenses tax-free. Those who stay healthy and don't withdraw the money benefit from tax-deferred growth, just like with an IRA.

Many experts now believe that 85-90% of all health problems are self-induced, and can be easily avoided if you understand how. By avoiding the most common diseases that affect modern Americans, you can delay having to take money out of your HSA, and take great advantage of the tax-deferred growth. Over a 20 year period, tax-deferred growth and tax-free use of your money to pay medical expenses during retirement could yield a 30% better return than a taxable investment.

Metabolic Syndrome: The Preventable Diseases That Almost Everyone Gets

One out of every five Americans, 45% of those in their 60's, and two-thirds of overweight people have metabolic syndrome. An astounding 70% of Americans have at least one symptom.

The symptoms of metabolic syndrome include elevated fasting blood sugar, high LDL cholesterol, elevated triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, and a waist circumference of 34 inches or more. Three of the top five causes of death - diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease - are all related to metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome could also be thought of as "pre-diabetes". Of the cancers, prostate and breast cancer are particularly correlated with metabolic syndrome. And metabolic syndrome will soon overtake cigarette smoking as the number one risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Yet the diseases of metabolic syndrome are almost entirely preventable by simply eating a good diet, exercising, and maintaining a normal body weight. Do so, and you avoid paying for the medications that everyone else is taking. Even more importantly, you avoid the surgery, hospitalization, rehab, and all the other expenses that come with a heart attack, stroke, colon cancer, and other related health problems.

If you are withdrawing several hundred dollars a year from your HSA to pay for cholesterol medication and blood pressure medication and other drugs, you're going to have a difficult time growing the account. But if you stay healthy, and invest most of your money in a good mutual fund, you could easily accumulate over $500,000 in a 25 year period.

HSAs reward personal responsibility. "Why do I need medical coverage?", they ask. "I have medical insurance." I'm glad they have medical insurance, but what about their passengers? Do they have medical insurance?

The medical coverage on your auto insurance provides medical coverage for both you, the driver, and each one of your passengers. It is a very cost effective way to pay for that ambulance ride to the hospital and to pay for the doctor exam. Many people don't realize that their medical insurance probably won't pay anything until the medical coverage from the car policy is exhausted!

Years back, a celebrated author in his get rich quick book advised us to minimize the medical coverage on our car insurance, or to drop it entirely. I would advise you to maximize it! Many health plans do not cover auto accidents until after the first fifty thousand dollars. My own plan does that, but for a modest extra $15 every month, it will pay after the first five thousand. No thank you! I'll pay the extra $15 to raise the medical coverage on my auto policy to $50,000, and spend that extra monthly $15 on something I'll enjoy.

Check it out. Temporary major medical insurance plans are available with a variety of options. Individuals opting for this plan are mostly allowed to select doctors and hospitals of their own choice.

Temporary major medical insurance coverage for individuals and families is available from 6 months to 65 years of age. It includes benefits such as inpatient and outpatient coverage, doctor office visits, surgical fees and laboratory fees. Provision is there to select the policy for a specified term, temporary or renewable. One can also choose the period of coverage from 1month to 6 months. Simple applications, credit card acceptations, guaranteed rates, prompt claims payment, superior toll-free customer service etc are some of the additional benefits.

Short-term major medical insurance provides reliable and inexpensive coverage for most injuries and illnesses. The importance of short-term insurance comes in situations such as a change in one’s job or schooling status. One can opt for the short-term health insurance if one is healthy and unemployed, employed part-time, going to school, graduating from college, leaving for home first-time, or even retiring early.

Travel health insurance is another type of temporary major medical insurance that is suitable for those who are thinking about leaving the home country for business purposes or pleasure. This international health plan is available for students as well. The travel health insurance plan offers over 12 international travel and medical plans.

Temporary major medical insurance plans can be renewed in most of the states. These plans are more cost effective when insurance is needed for short periods of 6 months or less. The drawback of this scheme is that if the insured is hospitalized during the coverage period, renewal may not be possible and it might even render him / her ineligible for permanent insurance.

By Kevin Stith

Temporary Medical Insurance: Healthcare Coverage During Transition!

Temporary medical insurance plans can provide people with health care coverage during a transitional time of their life when they would otherwise have no medical coverage. Temporary medical insurance is most beneficial to a person who may be between jobs, laid off, or on strike, a recent graduate, or anyone waiting for permanent medical coverage to begin.

Applying for temporary medical insurance is generally a short, simple process. Many companies offer online applications that can be approved in as little as 24 hours. Just fill out the application, submit it, and you should receive a reply by the next day. Once approved, coverage can usually begin the very next day. Temporary medical insurance is offered on a per month basis. Most commonly, coverage lasts six to twelve months but can occasionally be extended to as long as 36 months.

Temporary medical insurance is intended to be used on a short term basis until standard, long term coverage can be started. Most of the time, the coverage does not include routine preventive care like physicals or immunizations. The purpose of the coverage is to provide protection in the case of an accident or unforeseen illness.

Those with pre-existing conditions are generally ineligible for temporary medical insurance, though other options with higher premiums are available for those conditions. Some companies choose to exclude athletes or other people who are at a higher risk of becoming injured. Pregnant women are also ineligible to receive treatment under a temporary medical insurance plan and no maternity coverage is offered for those who may become pregnant after the policy begins.

When deciding on a temporary medical insurance provider, read the terms and conditions of the policy carefully. Review the exclusions and benefits of each company and decide which plan would be the best value to meet your individual needs. An option to extend coverage to include prescriptions will usually benefit the insured as well.

By: Gabriel Adams

Health and Medical Insurance - Comparing Managed Care Health Plans

Health insurance plans have been forced to take action to contain costs of quality health care delivery as health care costs have skyrocketed. Health insurance premiums, deductibles and co-pays have steadily increased, and health insurance companies have implemented certain strategies for reducing health care costs. "Managed care" describes a group of stratgies aimed at reducing the costs of health care for health insurance companies.

There are two basic types of managed care plans; health maintenance organizations, or HMOs, and preferred provider organizations, or PPOs. So which health plan is best? How do you choose what type of health insurance best suits the health care needs of you and your family?

Both HMOs and PPOs contain costs by contracting with health providers for reduced rate on health care services for its' members, often as much as 60%. One important difference between HMOs and PPOs is that PPOs often will cover the costs of care when the provider is out of their network, but usually at a reduced rate. On the other hand, most HMOs offer no coverage for health care services for out-of-network providers.

Both HMO and PPOs also control health care costs by use of a gateway, or primary care provider (PCP). Health insurance plan members are assigned (or select) a primary care practitioner (physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner). usually a family practitioner or internal medicine doctor for adult members or a pediatrician or family care practitioner for childern. The primary care provider is responsible for coordianting health delivery for plan members. Care by specialist physicians require referral from the primary care provider. This cost containment strategy is intended to avoid duplication of services (for example, the cardiologist ordering tests that have already been done by the PCP, or a sprained ankle being referred to an orthopedic) and avoid unnecessary specialist referrals, tests and/or procedures.

HMO and PPO plans also contain costs by requiring prior approval, prior authorization, or pre-certification for many elective hospital admissions, surgeries, costly tests and imaging procedures, durable medical equipment and prescription drugs. When such services are required, the provider must submit a request to the health insurance plan review department, along with medical records that justify the service. The request is reviewed by the health insurance company to determine whether the services are justified as "medically necessary" according to the health plan policy and guidelines. Review is usually performed by licensed nurses, and, if the reviewer agrees that the service is necessary, approval is given and the service will be covered by the health insurance plan.

As health care costs continue to rise, many indemnity health insurance plans, or "fee for service" plans are being forced to adopt some managed care strategies in order to provide quality health care and keep health insurance premiums affordable. And as long as health care costs continue to rise, the distinctions among PPO, HMO, FFS and other health insurance plans will become blurred. Rest assured, however, that managed health care is here to stay.

by: Kay Lowe

Temporary International Health Insurance

Whether taking a short-period trip overseas or planning to relocate to a foreign country, temporary international health insurance plans provide medical insurance that will meet individual health requirements. In other words, the plans are appropriate for sudden and unexpected injury or illness while traveling away from the home country on a temporary basis. As the name implies, temporary international health insurance is a type of insurance facility applicable for a limited period of time. This type of insurance cannot be considered as an alternate for annual-renewable (or “permanent”) major medical health insurance.

Temporary international health insurance plans vary from one organization to another. The plans differ in minimum benefit periods and legal registrations. Their services cover business executive travel (single and multi-trip), travel groups, students, diplomats, missionaries, expatriates, and entertainers. Temporary international health insurance plans can be purchased with coverage for the insured's spouse and dependent children, as well.

Temporary health insurance plans commonly cover expenses related to hospital, intensive care, surgery, outpatient treatment, emergency medical evacuation, accidental death or dismemberment, return of minor children, and repatriation of mortal remains. In addition to international emergency care, the service can sometimes provide trip cancellation and lost luggage insurance coverage – it is best to discuss your needs with a licensed insurance agency.

The Liaison International and the Atlas Series are two popular temporary international health insurance plans available in the United States. The Liaison International (available monthly) is a plan for both US citizens and non-US citizens. It includes two separate rate tables - international travel out the USA (for US citizens and US residents traveling abroad), and international travel that includes the USA (for foreign nationals visiting the USA). The Atlas Series are two plans for temporary travel outside of the home country. One plan is for non-US citizens traveling anyplace outside of their home country, and second plan is “Atlas International”, which is for US citizens traveling outside the USA.

By Jimmy Sturo

Medical Insurance Policy

A Medical Insurance policy is a contract between an insurance company and an individual or a group which promises to pay for medical care reasonably required by the insured policy holder for treatment in case of any injury or illness. Even now a day’s medical insurance policy is provided for disease like obesity.

If an individual has taken up a medical policy then he pays the premium according to a specific time frame as decided between the two groups. Usually, the policy takes care for the health & medical acre of an individual but if the premiums value is higher the insurance covers the family members also. In the case when the policy is taken by a group or an association, then all the individuals under the association receive the certificate of insurance. Some key points like payment of premiums, deductibles and co-pays are decided at the beginning and both the parties have to abide by these rules.

Searching a Medical Insurance Plan?

The terms in the policy may be hard to understand at times and the person may stand confused. So here is list of some terms commonly used up in an insurance plan:

Deductible-The deductible refers to the yearly amount of money that the insured would need to pay before any benefits from the health insurance policy can be used.

1. Co-insurance / Co-payments- This is the amount that would need to be paid by the insured before the insurance pays and in addition to the deductible.

2. Out-of- pocket- An out of pocket expense can refer to how much the co-payment, coinsurance, or deductible is.

3. Waiting Period- This is the time one would have to wait until certain health insurance overages are available.

4. Grace Period- This is the amount of time one has to pay their health insurance premium after the original due date and before insurance coverage would be canceled.

5. Lifetime Maximum-This is the most amount of money the health insurance policy will pay for the entire life. Pay attention to individual lifetime maximums and family lifetime maximums as they can be different.

6. Out-of-Pocket - This is the cost one would pay out of their own pocket. An out of pocket expense can refer to how much the co-payment, coinsurance, or deductible is.

Is Medical Insurance Necessary?

Man saves money for a better & safe future. But life is a string of surprises. A serious medical situation can strain one’s pocket, thereby emptying all the lifetime savings. The best option to save oneself from this situation is to secure your future with the help of a medical insurance policy

by: Jody Taylor

Temporary Insurance: A Great Option For Those Without Insurance

Temporary insurance is a great option for those who find themselves without insurance. Generally, this type of insurance is valid for thirty days to one full year, depending on what you are looking for. Temporary insurance is for those who have recently changed jobs but won’t be eligible for insurance from their employer for a length of time. Often, the COBRA coverage offered by their previous employer is too expensive to maintain. Sometimes temporary insurance is purchased by individuals who quit work to return to school, knowing they will soon return to the job market. New parents who want to stay home with their infant or individuals who have been laid off all find temporary insurance a welcome relief.

Temporary insurance is sold through an insurance broker. The cost of it will depend on many factors. The region you live in affects rates as does your age, the length of time you want to purchase the insurance. The insurance is more expensive if you are purchasing it for your entire family than if you are looking at purchasing it for yourself only. Some states require a medical exam as well as base your rate on that examine. If you use tobacco products, your premium will increase.

Your deductible also affects your premium. Generally, the higher deductible you choose the lower your premium will be. However, it is important to only choose a premium that you can reasonably cover or the insurance won’t really do you much good. A deductible is the dollar amount you must pay before the insurance pays anything. Most temporary insurances cover check up, doctor visits, emergency room visits, and surgery. A co-pay may also apply, meaning you pay a set fee for each doctor visit. Some temporary insurance plans will include prescriptions.

Since having health insurance coverage is so important, the opportunity to purchase temporary insurance is a great offer. Just one major medical expense without coverage can be damaging to your finances for years to come. It is wise to prepare yourself in advance by purchasing temporary insurance. Most companies make the cost easier on your pocket book by allowing you to make monthly payments.

By: Gabriel Adams

Medical Schools

It goes without saying that an aspiring doctor will first have to go to medical school. This refers to any kind of educational facility that offers recognized training courses in medical science. The object in attending them is to obtain the qualification and certification necessary to practice a medical profession.

In America, an aspiring doctor must undergo a four-year training and qualifying period at a recognized medical school. For medical students, medical school follows the obtaining of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.

Medical schools are meant to be finishing schools that fine-tune prior medical knowledge and train the student in the medical profession. Those who do not intend to go further than general practice and are content with being primary care physicians will still have to spend at least two to three years in medical school. The period can extend to eight years for those who wish to specialize in a more lucrative branch of the medical profession.

It is not easy to obtain admission to a reputable medical school, and the specifically designed Medical School Admissions Test (MCAT) acts as the primary weeding-out instrument. It is necessary to target and prepare for medical school from the earliest years of college, since admission criteria call for a variety of training modules.

Once admission has been obtained, two years of academic instruction are followed by the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1. This examination establishes whether the student has assimilated academic instructions appropriately. If passed, the student is assigned to an actual medical establishment for a two-year period of observation. Clinical competence is verified by the USMLE Step 2 examination.

By Seth Miller

Medical Billing Doctors

Medical billing doctors play a significant role in medical billing business. Many medical professionals run medical insurance billing services as a side business.

Medical billing doctor's is a profession that combines the job of a doctor and a medical insurance billing professional. Even though, healthcare industry is well established in America, most healthcare providers, especially doctors, have no idea about how to make quick money. Furthermore, health maintenance organization (HMO) and many other insurance companies have reduced remuneration rates to healthcare professionals, and as a result, many doctors have to search for new revenue sources such as medical billing and seeing patients in large volume. They consider medical billing as a convenient means to get paid more. Medical billing doctors offer you services such as claims management, patient billing, receivables management, electronic processing, payroll management services, and receivables management.

As medical insurance billing professionals, doctors also carry some responsibilities. They have to check and send the patient's claim form out to the medical insurance company, and make sure that all the information is correct.

Medical billing doctors need to be well informed on various medical insurance plans, which help them treat their patients according to the best insurance plan. Sometimes, it becomes necessary for individuals to arrange a large amount of cash urgently in case of emergency operations. Health insurance policies offer financial relief to the individuals in the event of any physical disorder or ailment. The financial aid will depend on the type of coverage offered, as the insurance policies range from minimal coverage policies to all-inclusive policies. Declining health standards and the need for a quality health insurance has led to a large number of insurance companies offering health insurance policies at competitive rates in California. There are several types of health insurance plans designed to suit individual needs. The main types of insurance include, fee for service insurance, managed care plans, and indemnity plan. A temporary health insurance is a short term insurance plan that is required for specific purposes.

Generally, the employers in a company provide the employees with a health insurance plan. However, temporary health insurance is required when an individual has to change a job, as the earlier policy may be discontinued after a few months. Many business owners who are planning to expand their business later opt for temporary health insurance. After expanding the business, they usually take up a group insurance policy. The temporary insurance offers temporary protection to individuals during these periods. A temporary health insurance can also include the families of individuals participating in the plan. Generally, temporary insurance policies are offered for one to six months. Though, these policies are usually not renewed, individuals are allowed to opt for a similar policy again after the expiry of the previous policy.

Most insurance providers require only 24 hours to activate a temporary health insurance policy after receiving the application. An individual can also postpone the date of activation of the policy up to 30 days from the date of application. Some insurance providers charge a processing fee for this form of insurance. It is easier to get a temporary health insurance policy.

The temporary health insurance does not cover pre-existing medical conditions, dental and vision care, medical check-ups, preventive care, and immunizations.

By Steve Valentino

Temporary Medical Insurance: Healthcare Coverage During Transition

Temporary medical insurance plans can provide people with health care coverage during a transitional time of their life when they would otherwise have no medical coverage. Temporary medical insurance is most beneficial to a person who may be between jobs, laid off, or on strike, a recent graduate, or anyone waiting for permanent medical coverage to begin.

Applying for temporary medical insurance is generally a short, simple process. Many companies offer online applications that can be approved in as little as 24 hours.
